FAQ'S
How do we get to Miradoux?
There are three ways to reach Miradoux: by plane, train or car.
The nearest airports are Toulouse (just over 1 hour), Bergerac or Bordeaux. Carcassonne or Pau are a bit further.
The train stop is Agen. You catch the Eurostar from St Pancras either to Paris or Lille, and change to the high speed train service (TGV) which runs to Bordeaux, and on one more stop to Agen. It’s half an hour from Agen station (Europcar office opposite the station) to Miradoux.
By car you can cross Portsmouth-St Malo (arriving 8.15 a.m). St Malo to Miradoux is 410 miles on good roads, arriving Miradoux comfortably by late afternoon the same day. Other cross-Channel routes are all possible but a bit further by road.
What’s the nearest airport?

How do we find out about availability and make a reservation?
We have a calendar showing availability at www.holiday-rentals.co.uk and to book you can either send us an email from that site or simply e-mail us direct ganthorpe@yahoo.co.uk or phone 00 44 (0)1653 648261. We look forward to hearing from you.
How do we pay? What currency do you accept?
If you’d like to rent our house we will give you bank details. We prefer payment in Euros to our French bank account, and transfers these days are pretty straightforward, but if you would rather pay in pounds or dollars this will not be a problem. We ask for 25% down payment when you make a booking to secure the reservation, and the remainder 6 weeks or more before the start of the rental period.
Is there a discount for more than one week’s holiday?
Yes, we offer a 10% discount on a two week stay, and 15% off a stay of three weeks or longer.
Tell us about the swimming-pool.
The pool is 10 x 5 metres, surrounded by local Lectoure stone. It lies at a lower level than the house and can be shut off to ensure the security of small children. French law is rightly strict about pool safety and our pool fully conforms to the regulations while remaining an attractive place to swim or relax.
What’s the weather like in the Gers?
Summers are generally pretty warm, though being on a hill there’s often a light breeze. Most of the rooms in the house have high ceilings, and shutters can be adjusted to keep out direct sunlight. Spring and autumn are delightful, and it’s often possible to eat outside. Winters can be cold, with occasional snow, but the house is well heated.
Is cleaning included in the price?
Yes, the house will be prepared for you and beds made when you arrive; in addition the rental includes a 3-hour visit by our ‘femme de menage’ during your stay. You may also like to engage her for longer by private arrangement.
Can we and our friends park in Miradoux?
The house has a garage, and there are no restrictions on parking around the village.

Can we work from the house (phone, e-mail, and internet)?
There’s a landline phone, and mobile reception is good. There’s also Broadband provided. We would recommend you bring your own laptop, but if not there’s a desktop P.C. running Windows XP with internet connection which you are welcome to use.
Is there somewhere for small children to play?
The upper garden beside the house is private and secure, with a high wall round. The pool area is shut off by an iron door to which there is a key so adults can ensure small children only use the pool when supervised. There’s also a garden across a small lane belonging to the house. This has a fence around it, but small children should always be supervised. In addition older children will enjoy playing under the Halle just opposite the front door of the house, riding bikes and knocking a ball about. For older children the 2 free tennis courts and the football field in the village are an attraction. The gîte
The gîte is a comfortable small house alongside the main ‘maison de maitre’ and is available to rent as extra accommodation. It’s otherwise unoccupied so won’t impinge on your visit should you not need it. It consists of 2 double bedrooms, a large downstairs sitting-room with kitchen corner, and a utility room. There is a shower room upstairs and W.C.s both upstairs and downstairs. It’s fully equipped (bedding, kitchen equipment, TV/DVD etc), and also has a small garden, private and shaded. The gîte would provide larger parties with more space, and if desired perhaps a little more privacy and independence for some of the group.
